Private Boone was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team. While the unit was attached to the 24th Infantry Division, he was Killed in Action defending his position near Kumchon, South Korea on 25 September 1950.

Boone was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
