Staff Sergeant Campos was the tail gunner on a B-26B Invader bomber with the 8th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Group. On 28 June 1950, while on a combat mission, the flight instruments on his aircraft malfunction and the plane crashed into the Yellow Sea. His remains were recovered.

Campos was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
