Private De Petro was a member of the 49th Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Infantry Division. He died of other causes on 16 February 1953, while on guard duty at Majon-ni, North Korea.

Private De Petro was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
