Private First Class Steele was a member of the 2nd Ordnance Medium Maintenance Company, U.S. Army. He died of other causes on 2 July 1953 in South Korea.

Steele was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
