John Sweeny

John Sweeny was born in 1920 in Newburgh, NY, son of Harry and Alice (Grady) Sweeny.
Sweeny was a 1941 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and was an active Naval Aviator for 28 years, retiring as a Captain in 1969.
After retirement Sweeny remained active by volunteering as a member of the Pennsylvania Prison Society, a member of NOW, a volunteer for the Allentown Drug Line, and as an orderly for five years at the former Allentown Hospital.
Captain John Sweeny, 90, passed away on 17 January 2011 in Allentown, PA. John was the husband of Doris T. (Thiel) Sweeny and they celebrated their 35th anniversary in March 2010.
In addition to his wife Doris, Capt. Sweeny is survived by his children, Mark, Peter, Stephanie, and Marguerite; he has seven grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. He is also survived by his niece, Alice Grady Flannagan, of Hawaii; and his dear friend, Diane Rabenold.
Burial
Captain Sweeney is buried at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.
