Nick Panella, Jr. was born on 22 May 1946.

On 2 July 1967, Private First Class Nick Panella, Jr., was serving with A Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division, in Binh Dinh Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, PFC Panella sustained multiple fragmentation wounds and was declared dead on 3 July 1967. His body was recovered.
