Gary Ken Newman was born on 23 April 1945.

On 25 March 1967, Private First Class Gary Ken Newman was serving with K Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force, in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, PFC Newman was killed in action when he sustained wounds from Friendly Fire. His body was recovered.
