William Morgan Montgomery
Captain, U.S. Navy
William Morgan Montgomery was born on 3 May 1921 in Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with the Class of 1942.
During World War II, he served aboard destroyers in both the North Atlantic and South Pacific Theaters of Operation. His distinguished naval career included command of the Cleveland-class Light Cruiser, USS Topeka.
He retired from active duty on 30 June 1971.
In retirement, Montgomery took a position with Linear Electric Motors and later with TECHPLAN Corporation until 1988.
He was an avid golfer.
William Morgan Montgomery died at Reston Hospital in Reston, VA. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Marion (Saunders) Montgomery; his son, William M. Montgomery Jr. and his wife Patricia M. Montgomery of Fairfax, VA; his daughter, Marion M. "Marnie" Montgomery and her husband David L. Barton of Leesburg, VA; and a granddaughter, Jacqueline M. Montgomery of Fairfax, VA.
Death and Burial
Captain Montgomery died on 17 January 2012 and is buried at the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, MD.
