Francis Marion Monroe was born on 30 June 1947.

On 22 November 1969, Sergeant Francis Marion Monroe was serving with 361st Aviation Company (Escort), 52nd Aviation Battalion, 17th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade, in Pleiku Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, SGT Monroe was killed in action when he sustained wounds from artillery, rocket or mortar fire. His body was recovered.
