On 19 October 1970, First Lieutenant Ralph Peterson Miller was serving with Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade, in Binh Dinh Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, 1LT Miller died of Other Causes in non-hostile action. His body was recovered.
