Andrew P. Poppas Andrew P. Poppas of Janesville, WI, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in the Class of 1988 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and a commission as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry. He holds a Master of Science Degree from Kansas State University, is a graduate of the Defense Language Institute, and was a 2011 National Security Fellow at Harvard University. General Poppas' command assignments include command of an infantry company in the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division and the 82nd Advance Airborne School, command of 3rd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division which became 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division and 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). He commanded 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division in Iraq from August 2006 to November 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) in Afghanistan from May 2010 to May 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. His key staff assignments include Battalion S-3 for 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Brigade S-3 for 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Division G-3 for TF All American, and Operations Officer for the Special Operations Division and Anti-Terrorism/Homeland Defense Directorate of the Joint Staff at the Pentagon.
