Peter Francis Mead was born on 13 January 1947.

On 21 May 1966, Hospital Corpsman Third Class Peter Francis Mead was serving with Headquarters & Service Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force, in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, HM3 Mead was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered.
