Robert Francis McManus was born on 30 January 1947.

On 12 August 1968, Private First Class Robert Francis McManus was serving with C Company, 4th Battalion, 47th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, in Long An Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, PFC McManus was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered. He received a posthumous promotion to Corporal.
