On 2 October 1970, First Lieutenant Gerald Lee Maseda was serving with Advisory Team 162, Headquarters, Military Assistance Command Vietnam Advisors, MACV, in Tay Ninh Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, 1LT Maseda was killed in action after sustaining wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered.
