James Arthur Levingston was born on 11 May 1945.

On 29 April 1966, Private First Class James Arthur Levingston was serving with A Company, 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, in South Vietnam.

On that day, PFC Levingston was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered.
