Larry Gene Lamphier was born on 3 December 1949.

On 14 December 1968, Private First Class Larry Gene Lamphier was serving with C Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force, in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, PFC Lamphier was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered.
