On 4 April 1968, Second Lieutenant Lawrence Henry Kocher was serving with C Company, 1st Battalion, 505th Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division, in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, 2LT Kocher was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered.
