On 20 June 1967, Private First Class Joseph Ronald Klug was serving with the 3rd Platoon, B Company, 11th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, PFC Klug was killed in action when he sustained wounds from artillery, rocket or mortar fire. His body was recovered.
