Private Murray was a member of Battery B, 76th Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Automatic Weapons) Battalion, U.S. Army. On 20 March 1952, he died of asphyxiation while in a coma of unknown origin at Kunsan Air Field (K-8).

Murray was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
