Corporal Morris was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of the 17th Ordnance Medium Maintenance Company, U.S. Army. He developed myocarditis and hepatitis and was evacuated to Danish hospital ship SS Julandia off Korea where he died on 12 July 1951.

Morris was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
