Lawrence Thomas Keegan

Lawrence Thomas Keegan was born on 17 June 1945 to John J. Keegan, Jr. and wife Barbara in Jersey City, NJ.
Growing up, Larry dreamed of adventure and upon graduation from William L. Dickinson High School in 1963, entered the U.S. Naval Academy as a Midshipman. In 1967, he graduated from the Academy with a degree in Nuclear Engineering and married his high school sweetheart, Thais Ahrendt.
As a submariner, Larry pursued his adventures both under the water and on land. During 25 years of distinguished naval service, Larry had the honor of serving as Commanding Officer of the USS Glennard P. Lipscomb (SSN-685) and the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS-39). After serving as Commanding Officer on the Emory S. Land, Larry retired from the Navy and began looking for a new adventure in the civilian world.
In 1993, Larry and Thais arrived in Savannah, GA, to begin their life anew. During his time in Savannah, Larry served as CH2M HILL's Project Manager and Principal Representative of the Georgia Ports Authority with the Savannah District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project.
Captain Lawrence Thomas Keegan, USN (Ret.), 64, died on 6 May 2009, after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer.
Larry is survived by his love of 47 years, Thais; daughter, Meredith Ensley (husband David) of Chesapeake, VA; son, David (wife Christina) and granddaughters Alexis and Sierra, all of Virginia Beach, VA; brother, John J. Keegan III (wife Louise) of Chesapeake, VA; four nephews, one niece, numerous grandnephews and grandnieces, and his trusty dog, Ben.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Barbara Keegan; mother-in-law, Rachel Ahrendt, and six beloved canine companions.
