Rosalie Henry Back Yeoman (F), U.S. Navy Rosalie Henry Rives was born on 24 August 1899 in Halifax County, VA. She was a Yeoman (F) in the U.S. Navy during World War I and was discharged from the Navy in 1920. She settled in the Washington, DC area after being discharged. Rosalie was a charter member of the Women in Military Service Association. While living in Washington, she met a young officer in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, George Irving Back, and they were married. Through the years, Rosalie accompanied her husband to military posts in the U.S. and in Japan. Her husband steadily progressed through the ranks and retired in 1955 as a Major General who was the Chief Signal Officer of the U.S. Army. They moved to St. Petersburg, FL, after his retirement in 1955. George Back died in 1972. In 1978, Rosalie returned to the Washington area and settled in Alexandria, VA. Rosalie Henry Rives Back died of a stroke on 22 January 1993 at Commonwealth Care Center in Fairfax City, VA. She was 93 years of age. Rosalie is buried with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. |
