Peter T. Perkins On 27 July 1943, Sergeant Peter T. Perkins was serving with the 91st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, Fifth U.S. Army. On that day, SGT Perkins’ unit was in action against German forces in the vicinity of Mt. La Guardia, Italy. SGT Perkins’ courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day earned him, at the cost of his life, the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross.
