Edward Mallory Almond, Jr. Edward Mallory Almond, Jr. was born on 7 December 1921 in Alabama. He was the son of Edward Mallory and Margaret Cook Almond. His father was a Lieutenant General in the U.S. Army. Edward graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in the Class of 1943 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry. On 19 March 1945, Almond was a Captain serving as Company Commander of L Company, 157th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, in the European Theater of Operations. In a battle with enemy forces in Germany that day, Captain Almond was killed-in-action. He had just returned to his Company after recovering from a wound received on 16 January. Medals and Awards Bronze Star Medal Badges Combat Infantryman Badge Death and Burial Captain Edward Mallory Almond, Jr. was killed in action on 19 March 1945 in Germany. He was survived by his father, mother, and sister, Margaret. He is buried next to his father and mother at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. |
