Henry Nehemiah Nickerson Boatswain's Mate First Class, U.S. Navy Medal of Honor Recipient Occupation of Veracruz Boatswain's Mate First Class Henry Nehemiah Nickerson (2 December 1888 - 2 May 1979) was a U.S. Navy sailor who received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Occupation of Veracruz. Henry Nehemiah Nickerson was born on 2 December 1888 in Edgewood, WV. Medal of Honor Rank and organization: Boatswain's Mate Second Class, U.S. Navy, USS Utah Place and date: Veracruz, Mexico, 21 April 1914 Citation: On board the U.S.S. Utah, Nickerson showed extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession during the seizure of Vera Cruz, Mexico, 21 April 1914. Death and Burial Boatswain's Mate First Class Henry Nehemiah Nickerson died on 2 May 1979. He is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling, WV, in Section G, Lot 179. |
