John Grady Captain, U.S. Navy Medal of Honor Recipient Occupation of Veracruz Captain John Grady (25 December 1872 - 9 December 1956) was a U.S. Navy officer who received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Occupation of Veracruz. Captain John Grady was born in New Brunswick, Canada. Medal of Honor Rank and organization: Lieutenant, U.S. Navy Citation: For distinguished conduct in battle, engagement of Vera Cruz, 22 April 1914. During the second day's fighting, the service performed by Lt. Grady, in command of the 2d Regiment, Artillery, was eminent and conspicuous. From necessarily exposed positions, he shelled the enemy from the strongest position. He reached the rank of Captain before leaving the Navy. Medals and Awards Medal of Honor Death and Burial Captain John Grady died 9 December 1956. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, in Section 4, Lot 2723-2-RH. |
