Charles DuVal Roberts Brigadier General, U.S. Army Medal of Honor Recipient Spanish-American War Brigadier General Charles DuVal Roberts (18 June 1873 - 24 October 1966) was a U.S. Army officer who received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Spanish-American War. Charles DuVal Roberts was born at Cheyenne Agency, SD. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1897. He also graduated with honors from the Army School of the Line (1912), Army Staff College (1913), and U.S. Army War College (1920). He retired from active duty on 18 June 1937. Roberts married Eugenia Bradford, who was born at Fort Dodge, KS, on 16 November 1898. She died at Williamsburg, VA, in 1951. Medal of Honor Rank and organization: Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army, 17th U.S. Infantry Place and date: Caney, Cuba, 1 July 1898 Citation: Gallantly assisted in the rescue of the wounded from in front of the lines under heavy fire of the enemy. Death and Burial Brigadier General Charles DuVal Roberts died on 24 October 1966. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, in Section 2, Lot 3671. |
