Alfred Polond Sergeant, U.S. Army Medal of Honor Recipient Spanish-American War Sergeant Alfred Polond (29 February 1872 - 26 March 1956) was a U.S. Army soldier who received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Spanish-American War. Alfred Polond was born on 29 February 1872 in Lapeer, MI; he also entered the Army from that city. He was sent to fight in the Spanish-American War with Company F, 10th U.S. Infantry where he received the Medal of Honor for his actions. Medal of Honor Rank and organization: Private, U.S. Army, Company F, 10th U.S. Infantry Place and date: Santiago, Cuba, 1 July 1898 Citation: Gallantly assisted in the rescue of the wounded from in front of the lines and while under heavy fire of the enemy. Death and Burial Sergeant Alfred Polond died on 26 March 1956. He is buried at Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo, MI, in Section Q, Lot 83, Grave 11. |
