Pomeroy Parker Private, U.S. Marine Corps Medal of Honor Recipient Spanish-American War Private Pomeroy Parker (17 March 1874 - 30 December 1946) was a U.S. Marine who received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Spanish-American War. Pomeroy Parker was born on 17 March 1874 in Gates County, NC. After entering the U.S. Marine Corps in 1892, he was sent to fight in the Spanish-American War aboard the USS Nashville. Medal of Honor Rank and organization: Private, U.S. Marine Corps Citation: On board the USS Nashville during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Parker displayed extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action. Death and Burial Private Pomeroy Parker died on 30 December 1946. He is buried at Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery in Roxobel, NC. |
