Anton Olsen Quartermaster Third Class, U.S. Navy Medal of Honor Recipient Spanish-American War Quartermaster Third Class Anton Olsen (10 July 1873 - 23 June 1924) was a U.S. Navy sailor who received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Spanish-American War. Anton Olsen was born on 10 July 1873 in Norway. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Spanish-American War on board the USS Marblehead. Medal of Honor Rank and organization: Ordinary Seaman, U.S. Navy Citation: On board the U.S.S. Marblehead during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Olsen displayed extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this period. Death and Burial Quartermaster Third Class Anton Olsen died on 23 June 1924. He is buried at Cypress Hills National Cemetery in New York City, NY. |
