James Lott Hull Fireman First Class, U.S. Navy Medal of Honor Recipient Spanish-American War Fireman First Class James Lott Hull (27 November 1873- 25 July 1928) was a U.S. Navy sailor who received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Spanish-American War. James Lott Hull was born on 27 November 1873 in Patoka, IL. After entering the Navy, he was sent to fight in the Spanish-American War aboard the USS Concord. Medal of Honor Rank and organization: Fireman First Class, U.S. Navy Citation: On board the USS Concord off Cavite, Manila Bay, Philippine Islands, 21 May 1898. Following the blowing out of a lower manhole plate joint on boiler B of that vessel, Hull assisted in hauling the fires in the hot, vapor-filled atmosphere, which necessitated the playing of water into the fire room from a hose. Death and Burial Fireman First Class James Lott Hull died on 25 July 1928. He is buried at Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney, IL. |
