Mary H. Bankston was a member of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the first all-female, all-African-American battalion to serve overseas. Sgt. Dolores M. Browne, PFC Mary H. Bankston, and PFC Mary J. Barlow were killed in the same Jeep accident. Both Marys were killed instantly; Dolores died from her wounds five days later on 13 July 1945. All three were buried in Colleville-sur-Mer together. Burial Sergeant Dolores M. Browne is buried at Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, Departement du Calvados, Basse-Normandie, France. |
