Mary J. Barlow was a member of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the first all-female, all-African-American battalion to serve overseas. PFC Barlow, Sgt. Dolores M. Browne and PFC Mary H. Bankston were killed in the same Jeep accident. Both Marys were killed instantly; Dolores died from her wounds five days later on 13 July 1945. All three were buried in Colleville-sur-Mer together.
