Andrew Johnson Cummins Sergeant, U.S. Army Medal of Honor Recipient Spanish-American War Sergeant Andrew Johnson Cummins (6 December 1868 - 15 September 1923) was a U.S. Army soldier who received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Spanish-American War. Andrew Johnson Cummins was born 6 December 1868 in Alexandria, IN, and after entering the Army was sent to fight in the Spanish-American War with Company F, 10th U.S. Infantry as a Sergeant. He received the Medal of Honor for assisting in the rescue of wounded while under enemy fire. Medal of Honor Rank and organization: Sergeant, U.S. Army, Company F, 10th U.S. Infantry Place and date: Santiago, Cuba, 1 July 1898 Citation: Gallantly assisted in the rescue of the wounded from in front of the lines and under heavy fire of the enemy. Death and Burial Sergeant Andrew Johnson Cummins died on 15 September 1923. He is buried at Lewistown City Cemetery in Lewistown, MT. |
