Robert Edwin Ward On 22 January 1945, then-Technician Fourth Grade Robert Edwin Ward was serving as a Medical Aidman with the 334th Infantry Regiment, 84th Infantry Division, Seventh U.S. Army. On that day, TEC 4 Ward’s unit was in action against German forces near Gouvy, Belgium, during the Battle of the Bulge. TEC 4 Ward’s courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross. On 1 March 1945, TEC 4 Ward was Killed in Action while taking the town of Dülken, Germany. Ward (ASN: 16052395), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 334th Infantry Regiment, 84th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 22 January 1945. Technician Fourth Grade Ward's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 84th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
