Charles P. Cantrell Private, U.S. Army Medal of Honor Recipient Spanish-American War Private Charles P. Cantrell (13 February 1874 - 3 August 1948) was a U.S. Army soldier who received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Spanish-American War. Charles P. Cantrell was born 13 February 1874 in Smithville, TN, and entered the Army from Nashville, TN. He was sent to fight in the Spanish-American War with Company F, 10th U.S. Infantry where he received the Medal of Honor for his actions. Medal of Honor Rank and organization: Private, U.S. Army, Company F, 10th U.S. Infantry Place and date: Santiago, Cuba, 1 July 1898 Citation: Gallantly assisted in the rescue of the wounded from in front of the lines and under heavy fire from the enemy. Death and Burial Private Charles P. Cantrell died on 3 August 1948. He is buried at Nashville National Cemetery in Nashville, TN, in Section 1, Grave 132. |
