Albert E. Beyer Coxswain, U.S. Navy Medal of Honor Recipient Spanish-American War Coxswain Albert E. Beyer (13 June 1859 - 29 October 1929)* was a U.S. Navy sailor who received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Battle of Cienfuegos in the Spanish-American War. He was one of 52 sailors and Marines awarded the Medal for actions during that battle. *(Dates might be 12 June 1859-16 March 1929??) Albert E. Beyer was born 13 June 1859 in Hannover, Germany, and served as a Coxswain in the U.S. Navy during the Spanish-American War. Medal of Honor Rank and organization: Coxswain, U.S. Navy Citation: On board the USS Nashville during the cutting of the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Beyer set an example of extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action. Death and Burial Coxswain Albert E. Beyer died on 29 October 1929. He is buried in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA. |
