James R. Tucker On 26 November 1942, then-Technician Fifth Grade James R. Tucker was serving with Company B, 1st Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, U.S. Army. On that day, TEC 5 Tucker’s unit was in action against German forces while raiding the airfield at Djedeida, Tunisia, during the Tunisian Campaign. TEC 5 Tucker’s’ courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day earned him, at the cost of his life, the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross. Medals and Awards Distinguished Service Cross Distinguished Service Cross Citation (Synopsis) The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Technician Fifth Grade James R. Tucker (ASN: 35150159), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company B, 1st Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, in action against enemy forces on 26 November 1942. Technician Fifth Grade Tucker's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1st Armored Division, and the United States Army.
