Joseph D. White On 4 August 1943, then-Corporal Joseph D. White was serving with the 161st Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, U.S. Army in the South Pacific Area. On that day, CPL White’s unit was in action against Japanese forces at Munda, New Georgia, Solomon Islands. CPL White’s courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day earned him, at the cost of his life, the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross. White (ASN: 14038640), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 161st Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 4 August 1943, at New Georgia, Solomon Islands. Corporal White's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
