Carl H. Parsiola On 24 June 1944, then-Private First Class Carl H. Parsiola was serving with the 1st Infantry Regiment, 6th Infantry Division, U.S. Army in the Far East Theater of Operations. On that day, PFC Parsiola’s unit was in action against Japanese forces. PFC Parsiola’s courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross. On 4 March 1945, now-First Lieutenant Parsiola (battlefield commission) was Killed in Action while trying to save a fellow officer. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal for that action.
