Brady L. Fields On 30 March 1945, Private First Class Brady L. Fields was serving with the 40th Reconnaissance Troop, 40th Infantry Division in the Pacific during the Southern Philippines Campaign. After landing at Pulupandan, in Negros Occidental Province, the Philippines on 29 March, on 30 March PFC Fields’ unit was in action against Japanese forces as it advanced through Bacolod City, the capital city of Negros Occidental. PFC Fields’ courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day, at the cost of his life, earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross. PFC Fields’ Died of Wounds received in the above battle on 3 April 1945. Private First Class Fields' intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 40th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
