Lyman Rohr Lyman Rohr was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rohr of Upper Dublin Township, Montgomery County, PA. In October 1917, Lyman enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 103rd Engineer Regiment, 28th Division. He received his training at Camp Hancock, GA, and his unit was sent to France in May 1918. Upon arrival in Europe, the 28th Division began training with the British. On 14 July 1918, ahead of an expected German offensive, the Division was moving forward with most of it committed to the second line of defense south of the Marne River and east of Château-Thierry. As the 28th Division took up defensive positions to block the German attempt to penetrate beyond the Marne River, the Germans commenced their attack, which began the Battle of Chateau-Thierry. Private First Class Rohr was wounded by the enemy and died of his wounds on 17 July 1918. Medals and Awards World War I Victory Medal Burial Private First Class Lyman Rohr is buried at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial in Belleau, Departement de l'Aisne, Picardie, France, in Plot A, Row 11, Grave 27. |
