George A. McGee
Private First Class, U.S. Army

In July 1943, Private First Class George A. McGee was serving with the 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division, Seventh U.S. Army.

During that month, PFC McGee’s unit was in action against German forces. PFC McGee’s courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross.

PFC McGee was killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge.

Distinguished Service Cross Citation (Synopsis)

Private First Class George A. McGee, United States Army, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company A, 157th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in July 1943. Private First Class McGee's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 45th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.

As shown in the Synopsis of Citation for his DSC (above), PFC McGee's unit is listed as Company A, 157th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. However, The American Battle Monuments Commission lists his unit as the 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division. That is also the unit listed on his grave marker.
