Beale Marshall Darby Beale Marshall Darby was born on 25 February 1900 in North Bend, PA, the son of Daniel Edger and Stella Annetta McBride Darby. Beale enlisted in the Regular Army in the summer of 1917 at Binghamton, NY. On 18 July 1918, Corporal Beale Marshall Darby was serving with Company C, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division of the American Expeditionary Forces. CPL Darby was killed in action that day near Chaetau Thierry, France, during the Aisne-Marne Offensive. Medals and Awards Purple Heart Honors In loving memory of Corporal Beale Marshall Darby and Private First Class Ira Cranmer Keller [Honoree Record ID 314651], the Keller and Darby families donated this land in North Bend, PA, to be used as a public park, forever commemorating their sacrifice for our freedom. The land remains to this day, a public park, ball field and playground. On Sunday, 15 July 2018, a century later, Chapman Township, Clinton County, PA, will celebrate their lives and remember their sacrifices. Chapman Township will rededicate the Keller & Darby Memorial Park and unveil a newly-constructed monument. This memorial is set within a place of honor and reflection, remembrance, and ceremony at the heart of Keller & Darby Memorial Park. Memorialization The remains of Corporal Beale Marshall Darby were never recovered.
