Fred Arthur Johnson was born on 10 December 1946.

On 6 February 1967, Private First Class Fred Arthur Johnson was serving with E Troop, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, in Binh Duong Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, PFC Johnson was killed in the crash of the helicopter in which he was a passenger. His body was recovered.
