Steven James Hubert Steven James Hubert was born on 15 May 1947. On 5 April 1969, Sergeant Steven James Hubert was serving with D Company, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 4th Infantry Division, in Kontum Province, South Vietnam. On that day, SGT Hubert was killed in action when he sustained multiple fragmentation wounds. His body was recovered. Badge and Medals Combat Infantryman Badge Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device Citation For heroism in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Sergeant Humbert distinguished himself while serving as a squad leader with Company D, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 4th Infantry Division. On 5 April 1969, Sergeant Hubert's company was involved in counterinsurgency operations west of Kontum City when they suddenly came under attack by an unknown enemy force employing B-40 rocket, mortar and small arms fire. Sergeant Hubert immediately deployed his squad to positions from which they could more effectively engage the enemy. Then, seeing and enemy machine gun position, he maneuvered toward it with the intent of destroying it. While moving toward his objective, he was mortally wounded by sniper fire. His personal heroism, initiative and exemplary devotion to duty are in keeping with the high traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
