John Allen Heika was born on 29 November 1945.

On 10 August 1966, Sergeant John Allen Heika was serving with Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in South Vietnam.

On that day, SGT Heika was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered.
