Michael Wayne Haskins was born on 1 September 1948 in Jennings, LA, the son of Jack Clark and Ruby Marla Haskins.

On 1 February 1968, Hospital Corpsman Third Class Michael Wayne Haskins was serving with Headquarters & Service Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force, in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, HM3 Haskins was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered.
