David Stanley Harris David Stanley Harris was born on 24 September 1947. On 24 March 1969, Sergeant David Stanley Harris was serving with A Company, 6th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in Kien Phong Province, South Vietnam. On that day, SGT Harris was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered. Medals and Badge Silver Star Medal Silver Star Citation (Synopsis) Sergeant David Stanley Harris (ASN: US-51882840), United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star (Posthumously) for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Company A, 6th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in the Republic of Vietnam. Personal David attended schools in Marion County and graduated in the Class of 1966 at Pleasant High School. He then attended the University of Nebraska for 18 months. He was employed by Tecumseh Products prior to entering the U.S. Army in March 1968. David was an only child and was unmarried. One of Pleasant High School's finest athletes, David still holds numerous football and track records and is one of only two football players to have his number (48) retired. His picture, with just three others, hangs in the Pleasant Hall of Fame in the high school gym.
