Warrant Officer Stone was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. He served for 13 months in Korea. On 18 November 1951, shortly after his return to the United States, he was killed in an accident in California.

Stone was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Pacific Theater Medal.
